GENERAL INFOORMATION
AWANA is an international youth program offered by Maywood Community Church as a positive influence in the development of young people. The AWANA name is derived from an idea in the Bible found in II Timothy 2:15 which advises “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed”. For your reference, our AWANA Club Charter number is 3670.

COSTS: Weekly dues are asked, but not required of $.25 for Cubbies, and $.50 for K-12 grades to cover operation expenses including necessary equipment, materials, incentives, awards, etc.
The AWANA program is divided into three segments: Game Time, Handbook Time, and Large Group Time.
GAME TIME: Offers clubbers the opportunity to participate as team members in physical activities which can help develop team spirit, good sportsmanship, coordination skills, and self confidence. Although games are competitive in nature,, and winning is desirable, leaders are required to give top priority to building and preserving each clubber’s self-esteem. Minimum memory work is required for participation in game time.
DRESS CODE: Appearance is to be modest in nature. Shorts (with at least a 4″ in-seem) are allowed. Tennis shoes are recommended for game time. Wheelie shoes are not allowed on any church floor!
HANDBOOK TIME: This consists of interaction between clubbers and their leader. Clubbers recite memory work and answer leader’s questions on the Bible reading assignments for comprehension. When the leader is satisfied that the clubber has covered the handbook material adequately, he will sign the handbook and the clubber will receive an award. Clubbers are expected to do reading assignments and verse memorization at home in preparation for Club Night. Parents are encouraged to help check their preparedness during the week.
CUBBIES: Parents are to review Cubbie material and initial their place in each section of the handbook.
LARGE GROUP TIME: Includes singing, announcements of upcoming events, contests and instruction from the Bible covering a variety of topics relevant to growing up in and coping with the pressures of today’s society.
CHANGES THIS YEAR:
NO costs for books and vests/shirts!!
HANDBOOKS: Clubbes are encouraged to write their names in ink on their handbooks to prevent misplacement or loss at club meetings. Clubbers must bring their book each week for participation in thhe Handbook Time of the evening.
UNIFORMS: Upon completion of the entrance booklet, a clubber is elgible to wear the AWANA uniform. We encourage each clubber to wear the uniform to club each week. AWANA requires that a clubber must have a uniform in order to receive the awards he/she has earned.
